Linux Hosting (cPanel) Help

Why am I signed up for Real User Metrics?

Our goal at GoDaddy is to provide our customers with high performing products. One of the ways we do this is through the use of Real User Metrics(RUM). RUM allows us to identify internal bottlenecks and optimization opportunities by inserting a small snippet of javascript code into customer websites.

The snippet of javascript code allows us to measure and track the performance of your website, and collects information such as connection time and page load time. We don't collect any user information with RUM. The data we collect allows us to improve our systems, optimize DNS resolution, improve network routing and server configurations.

Am I opted-in by default?

Customers located in the US and using Web Hosting (cPanel) or Web Hosting Plus are opted-in to provide RUM data. RUM data is gathered via a small javascript snippet that we insert into your website. Most customers won't experience issues when opted-in to RUM, but the javascript used may cause issues including slower site performance, or a broken/inoperable website.

If you're using Google's AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages Project), you have pages ending with multiple ending tags, or your site performance is slower, you may want to opt-out of RUM.

To opt-out of RUM:

  1. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. Under Web Hosting, next to the Web Hosting (cPanel) account you want to use, select Manage.
    select manage
  3. In the account Dashboard, in the upper-left corner of the page, select GoDaddy Analytics.
  4. At the bottom of the page, select No, I don't want to participate in the program and then select Confirm. The javascript snippet is removed from your website immediately after you opt out.
