About .ms Domains

Nic.ms is the sponsor and Key Systems is our backend provider for the country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD) .ms extension that represents Montserrat.

Who can register .ms domains?

Anyone can register .ms domain names.

Activating .ms Domain Names at Registration

At registration, the administrative and registrant contacts will receive a welcome email and an activation email. The activation email has a link that must be clicked on within 21 days to accept the TLD Registrant Agreement and AUP policy and confirm the domain name contact information.

The new .ms domain name will not be activated and will remain in "processing" for 21 days, until confirmed by clicking on the link. If not activated within 21 days, the domain name will be suspended, then deleted and refunded.

Registration restrictions

When registering a .ms domain, you must follow specific requirements.

  • Must use: 1 - 63 Characters
  • Can use: Letters: a-z, Numbers: 0-9, Hyphens (except in the 1st or last characters of the domain name) or consecutive
  • Cannot use: Special Characters (e.g., & and #)
  • IDNs: Supported/Not supported

Features

  • Registration length: 1 - 5 years
  • Renewal length: 1 - 5 years
    • Your .ms domain renews before its expiration date. If auto-renew is turned on, we'll attempt renewal on the 1st day of the month prior to the domain's expiration date. If the first attempt fails, we'll continue attempting renewal multiple times prior to the domain's expiration date.
    • If we cannot auto-renew the domain name and you do not manually renew it by the 20th of the month prior to the expiration date, you can attempt to recover your domain with any applicable fees.
  • Backorders: Not supported
  • Transfers to GoDaddy: Supported
    • Transfers to GoDaddy do not receive an additional year extension to the current registration term.
  • Transfers away from GoDaddy: Supported
    • Transfer Lock: Supported
    • You must initiate the transfer with the gaining registrar and provide an authorization code. Contact a GoDaddy Guide to request an authorization code.
  • Transfers to another GoDaddy account: Supported
    • When the domain name is moved, the registrant first name, last name, and organization cannot be changed.
  • Domain Privacy: Not supported
  • Domain Protection: Not supported
  • Cash Parking: Supported
  • Contact Updates: Supported
    • To update the registrant, contact a GoDaddy Guide for assistance.
    • Once a change of registrant is completed, the administrative and registrant contacts will receive a welcome email and an activation email. The activation email has a link that must be clicked on within 21 days to accept the TLD Registrant Agreement and AUP policy and confirm the domain name contact information.
    • If the domain is not activated within 21 days, the domain name will be suspended and forwarded to a parked page until it has been confirmed by clicking on the link.

  • Can use: IPv4
  • Cannot use: IPv6, DNSSEC
