What is WordPress?
WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS) created to serve as a blogging platform, and it evolved to become one of the most popular tools for creating websites. When building your WordPress site, you will use a hosting platform of your choice in conjunction with WordPress, which comes preinstalled on some of our hosting plans or can be installed manually. After adding content and changing how your site looks and functions, you will need to make your site live on your domain. Therefore, to have a live WordPress site, you will need three components:
- Hosting - A service that hosts your site on a server.
- WordPress - The CMS that your site is built on.
- Domain - A unique, easy-to-remember address used to access your site in a browser.
WordPress and Managed hosting plans
As mentioned, some hosting platforms come with preinstalled WordPress. These are our Managed WordPress and Managed WooCommerce Stores (available in the US only) plans. They are called managed because we install WordPress for you and take care of some maintenance tasks, like ensuring that WordPress, plugins and themes are up to date, running security checks, creating backups, and so on.
Therefore, if you don't want to install WordPress yourself and spend time running regular updates, these plans could be a good fit for you.
Unmanaged hosting solutions
If you need more flexibility, you can opt for an unmanaged hosting plan that will allow you to install older versions of WordPress, use caching solutions of your choice, and add other CMSs or custom files. The downside is that you will be in charge of keeping your site up-to-date and secure. We cannot do it for you because we do not manage that WordPress installation.

Creating a store on WordPress
If you want to turn your WordPress site into a store, you can install and set up the WooCommerce plugin on our managed and unmanaged solutions. The only exception is the Managed WooCommerce Stores (available in the US only) with both WordPress and WooCommerce preinstalled, along with some premium WooCommerce addons that come free of charge with this plan.
