Why am I receiving Microsoft 365 credit for my Workspace Email account?
We've made the decision to retire Workspace Email. While this decision was not made lightly, Workspace Email no longer meets the standards you deserve. As part of this retirement, we're giving you credit for Microsoft 365 that has the same number of mailboxes and time remaining on your Workspace Email subscription.
If you'd like to export your Workspace Email data, it's important that you do so within 7 days of receiving the retirement email from us. After this time, you'll no longer have access to your accounts.
We understand product retirements can be frustrating, so we're here to help answer your questions. Select a question to see its answer:
- Why is Workspace Email going away?
- What do I need to do?
- Can I back up my Workspace Email data or move to another email provider?
- What will happen to my email-forwarding credits?
- What if I don't want to move to Microsoft 365?
- Are all my webmail features available in Microsoft 365?
Why is Workspace Email going away?
We’re retiring Workspace Email and are no longer releasing new features. To provide you with the best email experience, we're encouraging you to move Microsoft 365 with its latest features and security updates.
What do I need to do?
We've sent you an email letting you know that your Workspace Email accounts are being retired. Unless you'd like to save your email data, there's nothing you need to do with your Workspace Email accounts. In addition, we're giving you credit for Microsoft 365 with the same number of mailboxes and time remaining on your current Workspace Email subscription. You can set up a new Microsoft 365 account with this credit.
Can I back up my Workspace Email data or move to another email provider?
To save and export your messages, contacts and calendar events, create an Outlook backup file. After you have the backup file, you can import it to a new Microsoft 365 email account or a different email provider.
What will happen to my email-forwarding credits?
At this time, you can continue using your Workspace Email's forwarding credits as you normally would. The retirement of your unused Workspace Email accounts won't impact them. However, if you decide to update your MX records to use a new email provider, your Workspace Email's forwarding credits will no longer work. Keep an eye out for an email from us next year when we'll give you new email forwarding credits to replace your Workspace Email ones.
What if I don't want to move to Microsoft 365?
We know change can be difficult, but we recommend giving Microsoft 365 a try. Microsoft 365 is more secure and reliable, and has more features for collaboration. See our blog post about the 5 benefits of Microsoft email.
Are all my webmail features available in Microsoft 365?
Most of the features from Workspace Email are available in Microsoft 365. Catch-all email isn’t supported by Microsoft 365.
Email signatures, email templates, inbox rules, and block/allow lists are supported by Microsoft 365, but they won't be moved from your Workspace Email account. You'll need to set up these features again. And, before forwarding Microsoft 365 email to an external email address, you'll need to edit your outbound spam filter policy.
