Add a meta title and description to individual posts or pages in WordPress
The meta title and meta description are meta tags that can help you customize how your post or page appears among presented results on search engines. Each post or page can have a different meta title and description, and you can use a third-party plugin, like Yoast SEO, to set them up.
- Sign in to WordPress.
- Install and activate the Yoast SEO plugin.
- On the left-side menu, select Posts or Pages.
- Select the post or page you want to edit (select the name, not the checkbox).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page or post.
- In the Yoast SEO section, ensure that the SEO tab is selected.
- In the box under SEO title, delete the existing content and enter the meta title you want to display as the page or post title in the search engine results.
- The progress bar displays the number of characters you use. If the progress bar below turns orange or red, you exceeded the limit. Adjust the meta title length until the progress bar turns green.
- In the box under Meta description, enter the meta description of your page or post, which will be displayed in the search engine results below the meta title.
- The progress bar displays the number of characters you use. If the progress bar below turns orange or red, you exceeded the limit. Adjust the meta description length until the progress bar turns green.
- Select Update.
You have successfully added a meta title and description to the edited post or page, and they should be displayed when this post or page shows up in the search results. However, it can take up to two weeks for search engins to re-crawl your site and make these changes visible in a browser.
