What are 90-Day SSL Certificates?
90-Day SSL certificates are certificates that automatically reprovision every 90 days instead of the current 1-year standard. GoDaddy’s 90-Day automated SSL certificates provide customers with better protection over 1-year certificates by:
- limiting potential exposure of sensitive website and visitors’ data to hackers.
- offering a 5X encryption refresh throughout your annual subscription, compared to only 1X annual encryption refresh for 1-year re-issuance certificates.
Why did GoDaddy reduce the re-issuance cycle to 90-days? Why is this better than the 1-year valid certificate that I currently have?
Automating SSL certificate re-issuance more frequently shortens potential exposure of customers’ SSL private keys, thereby minimizing the risk to their websites, businesses, and brands. With 90-day re-issuance your SSL encryption is refreshed 5X per year, compared to only 1X per year with standard 1-year re-issuance SSLs. The SSL industry will be standardizing to 90-days in the next 2-3 years, and GoDaddy is taking the opportunity to bring customers this great benefit in advance.
Do all GoDaddy SSL certificates have 90-day validity?
The 90-day certificates will be available for customers who have a GoDaddy Websites + Marketing, Managed WordPress, or Paylinks plans and Managed SSL subscriptions. Self-Managed or Do-It-Yourself SSL certificates will continue with yearly validation.
Can I use 90 Day SSL Certificates with any website?
GoDaddy’s Managed SSL certificates will work on any compatible hosting provider with direct access to your hosting server.
What information do I need to provide GoDaddy when purchasing a Managed SSL 90-Day certificate?
You need to provide your domain name. Additionally, if your site is hosted outside of GoDaddy, you also need to provide direct access to your hosting server.
How do I know when my Managed SSL is ready?
After GoDaddy sets up the SSL certificate on your website and verifies that everything works correctly, you'll receive an email from us to let you know everything is good. You don’t need to do a thing.
Will billing frequency change to every 90 days?
No. Even though the certificates will re-validate and re-install every 90 days, billing will remain on the current billing frequency chosen with the Managed SSL certificate. You will still enjoy the same great savings available today with 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, and 5-year subscription billing cycles.
Do I have to pay more for certificates that have 90-day validation?
No. We'll be adding 90-Day capabilities to existing plans at no additional cost to the customer.
What happens to my existing GoDaddy certificate that has a 1-year validation?
For Managed SSL and integrated SSL hosting customers, there is no work required on your end. We'll automatically switch you to 90-day validity during the next revalidation cycle.
Does a 90-day certificate mean more work for me?
No. You'll get the same great service levels you have today with 1-year validated certificates.
Can I still buy a new 1-year validated certificate on Managed SSL?
No. You won’t need a 1-year validation certificate after we transition to 90-day certificates. There will be no additional work for you - everything is fully automated. You'll simply enjoy better protection.
Do you still offer discounted multi-year SSL subscriptions?
Yes. We still offer the same great initial-purchase savings available today with 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, and 5-year subscription billing cycles.
Are OV and EV SSLs going to 90-day revalidation cycles?
Not at this time, given the validation process complexity of OV and EV certificates.
Are GoDaddy 90-Day certificates available globally?
Yes, the 90-day certificates are available in every country that currently offers GoDaddy Certificates.
