What is WordCamp?

WordCamp is a global gathering where WordPress enthusiasts, bloggers, developers, designers, and experts come together for a conference. It is organized by volunteers from around the world with the goal of connecting and collaborating with the WordPress community. The best part about Wordcamp is that it welcomes everyone. You don’t need to be an expert to attend a WordCamp! WordPress events are held in various cities across the globe annually. Post COVID, we're glad to see that WordCamps are back, where everyone from content creators to Core software committers gather together to learn, network and contribute to the open source Wordpress project — a software platform that powers 43% of all websites.

The conference typically spans 1 to 3 days and offers various opportunities for learning and networking, including speaker sessions, workshops, panel discussions, games, networking events, and an after-party. Many beginners attend WordCamp to learn, ask questions and seek feedback and collaboration opportunities. Simply put, it’s a great platform to forge new connections while supporting the WordPress community.

WordCamp Malaysia 2023, held in the heart of Kuala Lumpur from 8-9 September 2023, brought together WordPress enthusiasts, developers, bloggers, and business owners for two days of learning, networking, and inspiration. GoDaddy is proud to be a platinum sponsor for #WCMY23 and it was great to connect with so many like-minded WordPress enthusiasts during the event.

Jesselyn Tham: Code and Compliance: Integrating Terms of Use and Privacy Policies in Web Development
Jesselyn is a corporate and commercial lawyer with financial background. In her talk, Jesselyn highlighted key considerations and strategies to integrate comprehensive Terms of Use and Privacy Policies seamlessly into web development projects. Her deep knowledge of Malaysian and global legal frameworks (such as GDPR, EU general data protection) has helped attendees to understand legal implications and regulatory frameworks surrounding user data and privacy. For a particularly complex topic, Jesselyn was able to break these down to simple points, backed with case studies and it was a fruitful learning session.

Session: Taking WordPress to Infinity and Beyond with ChatGPT API

Speaker: Nathan Onn

Nathan is a self-taught freelance developer, and his session on ChatGPT API showcased the powerful and limitless possibilities that AI can assist when it comes to many areas of web development. In particular, Nathan has developed a comprehensive workflow of using AI tools for content marketing and generation. His step-by-step guide integrates research and selection with automation tools, as ChatGPT is not entirely reliable as a content producing platform on its own. You can access his sharing and slides here.

Devin is our well-loved and energetic Community leader who has brought various WordPress communities together over the years with her innovative ways. She is a sponsored WordPress.org Community Team contributor, a Meetup Organizer, and Indonesian GTE. In her sharing, Devin delved into the format of NextGen Event Project, a format of WordPress meetups where organizers are encouraged to reimagine how community events can be organized and experienced. A great example is the NextGen event at WordCamp Tegal, where a specialized theme of "WordPress for Enterprise" sets the agenda for this session.
