Being a stay at home mom is a tough job. The people around you tend to throw tantrums during lunch dates and, just as you sit down to rest after you’ve cleaned the house, come running behind you messing it up all over again. The way I conquered this emotional roller coaster was to get a job where I could work from home, have some independence and connect with taller humans. In this post, I’ll share six stay at home mom jobs for those who are considering this grand adventure.
I have been there, done that and got the T-shirt.
Whether you choose to create your own business or work for someone else, there are many options out there just waiting for someone like you.
Stay at home mom jobs that will keep you sane
Ask any mom — staying at home with children can make you hungry for adult interaction. Here are six ways to get it … or just make a little cash.
- Dog sitter/walker.
- Data entry.
- Tutor.
- Direct sales.
- Childcare.
- Influencer.
Let’s learn more about the six jobs you can do from home with children.
1. Dog sitter/walker
Love animals? What better way to feed your love than to become a dog sitter or walker. Many people who have dogs and work full-time out of the house need someone to care for their furry children.
When dog owners go on vacation, many don’t want to board their pets at a kennel.
They would much rather have someone take care of them in a loving environment, where they will receive one-on-one attention.
As a dog walker, you get paid to walk and bring some dogs along for the journey. Many dog walkers will walk multiple dogs at a time and make pretty good money doing it.

2. Data entry
If you have computer skills and can work an Excel sheet or a Word document with ease, becoming a data processor might just be the way to go. Many businesses are looking for someone to enter, process or convert their data in an efficient way.
This is a job that you can do while the children are napping, playing outside or even in bed for the night. Check out companies such as AccuTran Global, Clickworker or DataPlus.
3. Tutor
Tutoring is a great way to work a few hours and make good money. Parents often pay tutors a high rate as they value the service, especially if you are skilled in a subject like a second language or math. You can create your own hours to work around your family schedule and help a child to further their education.
Check the listings on Indeed.com or LinkedIn for tutoring jobs in your area.
4. Direct sales
Is there a product that you love, one that you purchase from your friends? Consider becoming a sales rep for that company.
This is a great way to connect with adult humans on a regular basis.
The best part is that you can work on your business when the kids are occupied, sleeping or even when you take them to the park where you can connect with prospects who are just like you … at the park with their children.
A bonus to this opportunity is that you get the products you love at a discounted price. Scan this list of direct sales opportunities in Canada to find the right one.
5. Childcare
Now, before you dismiss the idea, I want you to think about getting paid to have other children come over and play with yours. This would mean that you are no longer the full-time entertainer for your children as they would have little humans to play with.
A big bonus is that there’s no disruption to your daily routines.
This option would require you to plan activities, make meals and watch your children interact with others, under your supervision. You get to invest your time into more little humans who need someone like you in their lives.

6. Influencer
An influencer is someone who creates an online following by sharing articles, videos and photos of the things they love.
All you need for this is a website and social media profiles on networks like YouTube or Instagram. As you attract followers, companies will reach out to you to review and share their products.
Influencers get paid in both products and cash to promote the products and people they love.
One good thing about being an influencer is that this job can be focused around your family and lifestyle. Take Marsida Salku, the influencer mom behind @raisinghowells, for example. There is no need to step away from the family — you bring them along with you for the ride.
