Our ‘Meet the Teammate Series’ offers a glimpse into the daily lives of a variety of team members in different parts of the business.
My name is Milica and I’ve been at GoDaddy for Three and a half years and I am a Senior Software Engineer in Belgrade, Serbia. I work on and bring requested functionality to the solutions or products we are building. I’ve worked on numerous projects at GoDaddy but my biggest project was the Website Transfer project. It’s a tool that’s quite valuable as it allows for the transfer of external websites to GoDaddy. It could also involve transferring sites between different GoDaddy hosting tools. I am a software engineer on this project but also function as the project team lead where I am responsible for the general direction of the project.
I’ve known about GoDaddy for so long that I can remember exactly when I became aware of GoDaddy but when the Belgrade office came into existence it was big news in the local tech community. Everyone was talking about it since GoDaddy is one of the biggest tech companies and had just opened an office here in Serbia. I joined the company just a year and a half after the acquisition, it has been interesting seeing the office evolve from a startup to a more corporate environment. It is the best of both worlds with a large global tech company but with the autonomy to build interesting products as well.
If I were to describe what differentiates GoDaddy from other tech companies in Belgrade, I would have to say that not only do I work with very talented people, we have access to technology, conferences & perks like restricted stock units that are very valuable in the long run and other benefits that most employers do not provide. We also have employee resource groups for a variety of communities, I am part of the Belgrade chapter of GoDaddy’s women in technology — we host events and spread the word to attract other women into technology.
Working at GoDaddy has been one of the most valuable experiences of my career as not only have I improved my technical skills, I have had access to a variety of tools that GoDaddy makes available. I have attended and presented at frequent demos and meetings, I have also been able to improve my public speaking skills and overall business communication. Most importantly, I have had an opportunity to own and hold responsibility over a certain GoDaddy product used by countless customers.
My advice to job seekers in Belgrade is joining GoDaddy Belgrade office means that you’ll have full freedom of making decisions and you’ll own responsibility over the result. I think that is the best recipe for growth. Also for junior engineers that are female junior female; tap into your power to overcome your insecurities and grab every opportunity that comes your way. At GoDaddy, many opportunities were presented to me that I may not have had elsewhere. This helped me gain confidence because at the very beginning I was insecure, but with the right leaders and opportunities, I have pushed myself a lot and have grown as a result.
