Toast Ale joins GoDaddy Shops

With the high street quieter than usual, we’re going virtual. As part of #GoDaddyShops, in the run up to Christmas, we’re shining a light on a number of our customers, giving them the chance to show off their finest products to a whole new audience. This time on The Virtual High Street: Tristram Stuart, founder of Toast Ale.

Tristram Stuart is an international award-winning author, speaker, campaigner and expert on the environmental and social impacts of food. His books have been described, by The Times newspaper, as "a genuinely revelatory contribution to the history of human ideas” and his TED talk has been watched over a million times.

Because he clearly has a good head on his shoulders, the environmental campaigner founded Toast Ale in the UK in 2016, to pioneer a beer made using fresh, surplus bread.

Approximately 44% of all bread is wasted. Looking at this terrible waste of resources, and being determined to do something about it, Tristram developed a system whereby surplus bread could be turned into delicious, vegan-friendly craft beer.

The brand now employs a large team based right around the UK, whilst helping to reduce food waste. The journey to success was supported by GoDaddy, as Chief Toaster at Toast Ale Rob Wilson explains:

We wanted to launch but we didn’t have any working capital, and we didn’t have the cash flow. We looked at a crowdfunding campaign where we would basically pre-sell the beers. We were lucky enough to get funding support from GoDaddy to kick it off. The extra support really gave us the incentive to get going and it was an amazing success.

With almost two million drinks served, Toast Ales are available now from select supermarkets - and you can always pick up a slice of Toast Ale directly from their website. Available in bottles and cans!

So-called ‘micro-breweries’ are very much to the public’s taste, and the craft ale sector has been quietly making a refreshing change to people’s drinking habits in the UK and around the world, in recent years, creating livelihoods from a genuine passion for the cold stuff.

The Good Beer Guide lists 1,850 breweries in the UK in 2020.
